07/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - The High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, expressed his concerns on 7 November at the continued detention in Laos of several Europeans, "including a member of the European Parliament" (Olivier Dupuis: Ed.), who had demonstrated peacefully for "freedom and democracy in Laos". "Following representations to the Laotian authorities, access to the detainees has now been granted to a lawyer and to diplomatic representatives", Solana stipulates, concerned at their conditions and calling on the Laotian authorities "to bring about a rapid and satisfactory conclusion to this incident, in full conformity with international law".
