The Turkish group ARCELIK ("Beko" make) is to make a global bid for BRANDT (1.44 bn euro turnover in 2000 but with low profits, 13 plants and a staff of 11,026), which pools the wholesale electrical household goods activities of the Italian firm EL.FI. In all, no less than 34 players in the sector expressed interest in the company. The last date for putting in bids is set for Friday November 9. As a reminder, BRANDT had filed for bankruptcy on 7 September of this year, like its parent company MOULINEX (see EI of 25 October). The group ARCELIK is part of the conglomerate KOC which, in 2000, had a turnover of $12.1 bn.
