Brussels, 17/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - At their meeting on 15/16 October chaired by Vilhjalmur Egilsson and Edward McMillan Scott, the joint EU/European Economic Area parliamentary committee (of members of the EP and MPs from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) passed a resolution on the reform of the EU's competition policy which, while stressing that the reform process had not been finalised at EU level, stated that the deputies wanted Protocol 21 and 22 of the EEA Agreement to be amended to incorporate the EU's reforms. They highlighted the need to settle various problems that the reform would pose in the EEA, such as the decentralised application of competition rules. In another resolution, on governance and its impact in the EEA, the deputies asserted that the views of the EEA and EFTA should be incorporated into the reform of the Union's comitology system.
