17/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - Enrique Baron, President of the Socialist Group in the EP, welcomed a "Wake-Up Call for Europe" handed in by thirteen prominent Europeans to Guy Verhofstadt (see EUROPE/Documents, No. 2253 and EUROPE of 16 October, p.4), notably regarding the role of the Commission and the inclusion of the Charter of Fundamental rights in the Treaty, but regretted that it did not plead in favour of a greater role for the European Parliament.
