French Socialists organise Seven forums

Brussels, 11/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - As part of the process of defining the position of the European Parliament's Socialist group ahead of the Laeken European Council, the French members of the European Parliament's Socialist group will be consulting citizens through seven debate forums throughout France and three online surveys (http://www.expression-publique.com ). The first survey is already on the website and covers the right to asylum in Europe.

The meetings (in which representatives of the European Commission and the French government will be participating) will cover the following themes: Immigration and Refugees, in Lyons on 19 October with Martine Roure; Science, Culture, Youth and Society in Europe, in Lille on 10 November with Gérard Caudron and Danielle Darras; Area of Justice in Europe, in Reims on 1 December with Adeline Hazan; Transport and the Environment, in Bordeaux on 7 December with Gilles Savary; Enlargement and the Social Model, with Pervenche Berès, Michel Rocard and Harlem Désir; Europe and its Regions, with Bernard Poignant; and Sustainable Development and Food Security, in Béziers in December with Marie-Arlette Carlotti and Alan Barrau, President of the French National Assembly's European Union delegation.
