Brussels, 11/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a speech on 11 October before the European Trade Union Confederation on "Europe, one month after 11th September: challenges and reactions", European Commission resident Romano Prodi said that, in this crisis, the action of Europeans should be guided by five principles: - "avoid falling into the trap of seeing this as a clash of civilisations; - realise how much our similarities outweigh our differences; - demonstrate total solidarity with the US; - opt for European integration; - promote our view of politics, one of multilateralism and solidarity". Prodi said that he had asked all Commissioners to "make proposals in their won spheres of competence", and that the Commission would take "a clam and considered look at potential initiatives in the next few weeks".
