Brussels, 30/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the European Commission decided to continue, through the sending of motivated opinions, the procedures initiated against: - Denmark, for failure to transpose into national law certain provisions of the Directive on packaging waste; - the United Kingdom and Austria for failure to respect the directive on used oils; - Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Greece, Spain and Portugal for failure in their obligation to adopt the necessary texts for the implementation of the Directive concerning information on the consumption of fuel and CO2 emissions. Moreover, it decided to refer Austria to the Court of Justice for failure to respect the standards in terms of waste. Finally, the Commission decided to put an end to a procedure initiated against Greece over a wild dump located in Crete. EUROPE will return to these issues.
