Brussels, 27/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, the European Commission decided to grant EUR 20 million, which will be taken from the Tacis budget, in view of providing the Ukrainian with fossil fuels allowing them to increase their electricity production during the coming winter. In fact, electricity supply is insufficient in the Ukraine since the closure of the Chernobyl power station. EUR 25 million had already been freed for the same reason at the beginning of the year in the framework of the "Fuel Gap Programme", which foresees a global budget of EUR 65 million for the 2000-2002 period.
