Brussels, 09/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The agreement between the Union and the United States aimed at coordinating labelling programmes for energy efficiency of office equipment appeared in the Official Journal No L172. This edition exchanges diplomatic notes on the arrangements for implementation during the initial five-year period, possibly renewable. Energy efficiency specifications and a common logo - "Energy Star" - will be used on both sides of the Atlantic in the context of this programme in order to identify and designate office equipment (computers, printers, copiers, etc.) that meet approved energy efficiency and performance requirements. Europeans and Americans thus hope to maximise energy savings and the environmental advantages entailed by stimulating the supply and demand of energy effective products and by fixing "coherent objectives for manufacturers".
