Strasbourg, 06/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The EP has approved the report by Elmar Brok (CDU) on macro-financial aid of EUR 300 million to the FRY (loan of 180 million over 15 years and a grant of 120 million). The plenary adopted amendments mainly specifying that the aid may be provided "as long as: - Belgrade progresses along the road towards workable rule of law, mainly by cooperating with the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague"; - it is of an "extremely exceptional" kind and in no way sets a precedent; - and if it is negotiated by the Commission after consultation not only with the Economic and Financial Committee but also the EU Political and Security Committee.
