Green Light to Standing Veterinary Committee on BSE screening tests, but not on extension of ban on meat meals

Brussels, 14/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - Due to the opposition from representatives of Germany, Spain, Austria and France (the United Kingdom abstained), the Standing Veterinary Committee (SVC) was unable to achieve a qualified majority over one of the two paths of the new measures aimed at enhancing the legislative framework in terms of the fight against BSE, notably the extension of the suspension presently affecting the use of meat and bone meals (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.9).
