VALENTIA, consortium gathering together the Irish Media magnate Tony O'Reilly, PROVIDENCE EQUITY PARTNERS, GOLDMAN SACHS, WARBURG PINCUS and SOROS PRIVATE EQUITY PARTNERS won the fight for the control of the incumbent operator EIRCOM (turnover of EUR 2.16 billion in the financial year ending March). It offered more than its rival, the EISLAND consortium, lead by the businessman Denis O'Brien. EIRCOM holds 80% of the fixed line market, directories as well as Internet access.
