Eu reached political agreement on tuesday night on five year extension of sugar price and quota regime

Brussels, 23/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - As expected early on Tuesday evening (see yesterday's EUROPE, p. 6), after long 'bilateral' negotiations the EU's Agriculture Ministers managed to reach a qualified majority agreement on a five year extension to the price and production quota regime for sugar with the following amendments: - scrapping the EUR 300 million from the EAGGF (rather than a reduction as reported in yesterday's EUROPE) for reimbursing stockpiling charges for the sugar industry;...
