23/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Swedish Presidency has adopted a declaration on behalf of the EU in which it welcomes the commitment by representatives of ethnic Albanian armed groups to full demobilisation in the Valley of Presevo (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.3, for Solana's declaration) and urges these groups to "hand over their weapons to KFOR and return to civilian life". At the same time, the EU encourages the FRY/Serb authorities and Albanian representatives to continue their dialogue so as to "consolidate the implementation of confidence-building measures, including the early establishment of a multi-ethnic police force" (For the text in full, Internet site http: //ue.eu.int/Newsroom).
