Commission defines its fields of action by adopting its communication on European human rights policy

Brussels, 08/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, as planned, the European Commission adopted the communication on the "EU's role in promoting human rights and democratisation in third countries", for which Commissioner Patten had presented the broad outlines in Nyköping (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.7). This communication, which is the first summary document on European human rights strategy since 1995, seeks to "set this policy in the context of the Commission's overall strategic approach...
