Brussels, 08/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Federation of Pensioners and the Elderly (Ferpa, member of the European Trade Union Confederation) is organising a week of mobilization in all EU and candidate countries from 20 to 27 May on "An active voice for pensioners and the elderly". A paper of demands by Ferpa entitled "7 Days of action to gain 7 objectives" will be presented to European institutions, national governments and parliaments. It demands, in particular, a minimum level of existence in the order of 40% of per capita GDP; retention of public pension schemes and the setting of a guaranteed minimum pension; the introduction of a dependence insurance, the guarantee of quality health care and home services for dependent elderly people; active participation in pensioners trade unions in drawing up national plans against social exclusion.
