Paris, 24/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - China's accession to the World Trade Organisation "is a matter of months and not years", said European Commissioner Pascal Lamy, on Radio France Internationale (RFI) on Saturday. The "two slightly difficult points of negotiations", but nevertheless "solvable", relate to the agricultural chapter - regarding Sino-American relations, he remarked - and that of insurance (see EUROPE of 9 April, p. 14). The person responsible for the Union's trade policy also referred to the "administrative and legislative conditions for construction in the Chinese market on which the Americans and Europeans have great interest in defending".
