Herxheim-Hayna, 21/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - Macedonian President Mr Tratkovski has asked to be able to express his views in Stockholm (during the EU Summit). "We believe, with all due respect to the Swedish Presidency, that it will be possible", said Chancellor Schröder after the informal French-German summit on Tuesday evening in Herxheim-Hayna (Palatinate), which mainly focus on the crisis in the Balkans and food safety in the EU in the light of BSE and the foot-and-mouth disease.
On the subject of CAP, "we need to define the problems and the ideas for working together and reaching solutions", stated Mr Jospin. Mr Schröder, for his part, said he had accepted the request to adopt, at the Stockholm Summit, an approach to promote stage by stage liberalisation of the market for goods and services, without a binding timetable (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.8, on Mr Jospin's position).
