02/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - In order to give greater visibility to the activities of the European Union stemming from the European "third pillar", the Belgian Minister for Home Affairs Antoine Duquesene will lead next October, during the Belgian Presidency of the EU, a wide ranging Community police operation which will see police officers from the EU intervene at the external eastern borders of the future enlarged Union. This operation, named "High Impact", will target illegal immigration and the trafficking of human beings. Moreover, the future Belgian Presidency of the EU wants to launch a border police academy, as announced during the informal JHA meeting in Stockholm (see EUROPE of 10 February, pages 6-7).
