Brussels, 21/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - The General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Emilio Gabaglio, welcomed the reference made by Advocate General Antonio Tizzano to the European Charter of Fundamental Rights adopted by the EU in December 2000 in Nice, in his conclusions on a matter concerning the British legislation on paid leave (see EUROPE of 19/20 February, p.12). Mr Gabaglio, who said he considered Mr Tizzano's position "very correct and logical" adds that, for his part, ETUC will continue to use all its influence so that the fundamental rights thus reinforced are "integrated in a binding manner in the Treaty of the Union".
