Brussels, 16/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank has granted a loan of EUR 54 million to Cable and Wireless Panama SA for the modernisation and extension of the fixed and cellular telephony networks, as well as the data transmission services in Panama. The company in question holds a monopoly on Panama's market until 2003, when the sector is to be liberalised. The EIB has already made a first loan of EUR 50 million for extension of the network.
