Brussels, 02/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - The presentation of the first "authentic" coins and banknotes in euros will take place under the Belgian Presidency, at the informal EcoFin Council to be held in Liege from 21 to 23 September. As we stand, only reproductions are in circulation, for reasons of security. A pre-circulation of coins will begin in Europe in September in certain countries of the euro zone. According to the Belgian scenario, banks, security transport companies, and post offices will be supplied with coins on 1 September. Mass distribution, the retail trade and local authorities will be supplied in coins and banknotes from 1 December. The first kits of coins and banknotes intended for the general public to circulate in Belgium will be presented at the Summit of Laeken on 14 and 15 December.
