Strasbourg, 18/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament adopted, during its emergency debates last Thursday, a resolution in which it calls on President Kostunica to free all the political prisoners incarcerated under the Milosevic regime. It is a case of the credibility of the new Yugoslav President, said the Parliament, for whom all the political prisoners must be freed through a Presidential pardon or through the amnesty law presently being elaborated by the Yugoslav Minister of Justice, while the Kosovar Albanian political prisoners "can be handed to the UNMIK", in accordance with Security Council Resolution 1244. The Parliament, which also calls on the two parties to investigate the fate of the disappeared, invites the UN, the Council and the Commission to contribute towards the creation of political conditions enabling the starting of a "positive and constructive" dialogue between Belgrade and the political leaders in Kosovo.
