08/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - Amnesty International wrote to the Heads of Government of the 15 EU Member States before the Nice Summit to express its concern at the "still widespread use" of torture in Turkey. The human rights organisation asks Turkey, candidate for EU membership, to take immediate steps against torture and the impunity of the security staff who inflict it, and not from 2002 or 2003 as provided for by the governmental five-year reform programme.
