Brussels, 06/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to open an indepth inquiry on the subject of the merger between the Canadian company Bombardier Inc and Adtranz, a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler, which should give rise to the world's largest manufacturer of railway equipment. This merger poses many problems on the regional and light rail vehicles markets for which the combined market share would be very considerable. The commitments presented by the parties did not convince the Commission which, after a detailed investigation, is expected to give a final decision by April 2001 (according to the regulation, it has four months in which to carry out this kind of investigation).
