Teheran, 06/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - Mr Assefi, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, told the press on Monday, according to AFP, that an EU/Iran dialogue session , which was to have been held on Tuesday in Paris, has been cancelled at Teheran's initiative, as the French Presidency had "reduced" the level of its representation there. The agreement, said Mr Assefi during his press conference, was that such sessions, which take place twice a year (the last had been held in June in Teheran, under Portuguese Presidency) should be held at ministerial level. Iran planned to send Paris the deputy minister responsible for European issues, while the French delegation had been chaired by the Deputy Secretary General of Quai d'Orsay. Despite this cancellation, Mr Assefi pointed out that EU/Iran dialogue would continue.
