Brussels, 01/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has authorised the creation of a joint undertaking in the information technology sector between the French company Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Group and British Vodafone. The new venture, held equally, aims to establish and maintain digital mobile-enabled business-to-business marketplaces for enterprise on behalf of independent clients. To this end it will combine Cap Gemini's IT expertise in applications and system integration and Vodafone's skills as a leading operator of mobile telecommunications networks. The Commission found that the transaction will create a new player in the marker for consulting and IT services, a market in which there is already considerable competition and where customers have considerable leverage to play one supplier against another. In addition, there will be no overlapping of activity between the parent companies.
