Brussels, 01/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission approved three of the fourteen programming documents intended to specify the kinds of projects that could benefit from Objective 2 aid in the United Kingdom from 2000 to 2006. Objective 2 is intended, we recall, to support regions undergoing conversion.
The region of eastern Scotland will receive EUR 250.54 million from the Community budget, to which must be added British public and private financing. The priorities are enterprises, training and social justice. The region of southern Scotland will receive EUR 73.13 million from Community funding, completed by public and private funds. Priorities are the "development of competitive enterprises, developing competitive locations, and developing people and communities". Gibraltar will receive EUR 8.38 million from the EU, here also completed by co-financing. The SMEs, the environment and cultural heritage are three sectors that will benefit from Objective 2 aid in Gibraltar.
