Joint-venture between Telia and Oracle cleared

Brussels, 13/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved a joint-venture in the Internet sector between Telia and Oracle Corp. Called Drutt, the new entity will create a web-site (halebopp.com) specifically targeted at mobile phone users who will be able to tap into the site either through Wireless Application Protocol digital mobile phones (WAP) or second generation digital mobile phones. Drutt is currently held and controlled by Oracle alone and, since May 2000, has designed and marketed an internal portal for the wireless Internet. These services will initially be focused on Sweden. The Commission approved the operation given the fact that the markets on which Drutt is present are growing rapidly and because the firm will not have any exclusive arrangements with Telia (otherwise, the operation would have contributed to foreclosing the market).
