Brussels, 13/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European commission has welcomed the lifting by Australia, of its plan to limit access to television teams of foreign press agencies to the Olympic Games. Pascal Lamy, who had threatened to refer the case to the WTO welcomed the "fair decision taken by the Australian authorities opening access to the media coverage of the OG on a non-discriminatory basis". In the guidelines published following a compromise, the Olympic Coordinating Authority stipulated that Reuters, AP and CNN should benefit from a permanent pass"; the remaining 150 foreign applicants will have the possibility of procuring tickets, on a daily basis, by a system of lottery.
