ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) main operations carried out in august

(EU) Investments: - China: Foreign direct investment (FDI) in China fell by 7.4% during the first seven month of this year when compared with the same period in 1999, while the investment pledges continued to rise, according to the official statistics published by the Chinese Ministry for Foreign Trade. According to the figures, FDI totalled USD 19.9 billion in the first quarter 2000, while the investment pledges rose 24% to USD 27.6 billion over the first seven months of this year. - Taiwan: FDI in Taiwan increased, for its part, by 130% in the first quarter 2000 compared to the same period in 1999, to USD 3.6 billion. No less than 672 foreign projects have been approved including 20 for over 200 million Taiwanese Dollars.
