Brussels, 28/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Union of Public sector Unions (USSP, belonging to the CESI, European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions) asserts in a press release it "approved the broad guidelines' of the draft Charter of general interest services presented by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and by the European Centre of Enterprises with Public Participation and of Enterprises of General Economic Interest (CEEP), and that it in particular supports the rejection, in the text, of a "complete deregulation of general interest services". Furthermore the USSP feels that it is urgently necessary to define "the right and the duties towards users" of general interest services and to monitor compliance with them, and welcomes the Charter's affirmations in favour of worker participation. It stresses, however, that such participation can only be assured if trade union pluralism is guaranteed, and therefore demands participation in sector-specific social dialogue in this field on an equal footing.
