Brussels, 03/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved a merger whereby Mondi, the European paper and packaging branch of the Anglo-American Group intends taking exclusive control of the Austrian company Frantschach AG and several European companies of AssiDoman (Sweden). This operation concerns, in particular, the industrial sacks and sack paper sectors. Initially, Mondi is considering taking its share within Frantschach from 50 to 70%. Then, Frantschach should take control of several AssiDoman companies. According to the Commission, the position of the parties on the market in question rules out the creation or strengthening of a dominant position. Even though the parties will become number one on the European market for industrial sacks and sack paper, their joint market shares will remain below 25%.
