Brussels, 11/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The precautionary principal, situation of fisheries, insular underdeveloped regions, fight against tax evasion, material for the vegetative propagation of the vine: these are the issues that will be discussed in the plenary session of the Economic and Social Committee, this Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 July. Chaired by Beatrice Rangoni-Machiavelli, these works will be introduced, Wednesday at 14: 30, by the President of the European Parliament Nicole Fontaine, who will discuss relations between the Committee and the EP.
The Committee should adopt seven initiative opinions concerning: 1) resorting to the precautionary principal (rapporteur: Adrien Bedossa, France, group of Various Interests), 2) 10th annual report from the 1998 Structural funds (Dario Mengozzi, Italy group of Various Interests), 3) Estonia on the path to accession (Filipo Hamro-Drotz, Finland, group of employers), 4) insular underdeveloped regions (Nikolaos Zassilaras, Greece, group of Various Interests) , 5) common fisheries policy and the situation of fishing in the EU (Eduardo Chagas, Portugal, group of Workers), 6) fight against tax evasion within the single market (Umberto Burani, Italy, group of Employers), 7) customs co-operation within the single market (Helmut Giesecke, Germany, group of Employers).
Furthermore, the Committee will rule over several legislative proposals or communications from the European Commission with regard to: assessment rules applicable to annual and consolidated accounts of companies (Harry Byrne, Ireland, group of Employers), restrictions on products submitted to excise introduced in Sweden (Clive Wilkinson, UK, group of Employers), monitoring of dangerous goods (Hubert Ghigonis, France, group of Employers), priorities in domain of water (Maria Sanchez Miguel, Spain, group of Workers), material for the vegetative propagation of the vine (Jean-Claude Sabin, France, group of Various Interests) air transport and environment (Gabriel Garcia Alonso, Spain, group of Employers), the Commission and NGOs: strengthening the partnership (Anne-Marie Sigmund, Austria, group of Various Interests)
The Committee will take stock of the Commission White Paper on environmental responsibility (Maria Sanchez Miguel), as well as the two information reports: one concerning the household debt burden (Manuel Ataide Ferreira, Portugal, group of Various Interests), the other the European dimension of education (Christoforos Koryfidis, Greece, group of Workers; Berd Rupp. Germany, group of Various Interests).
