Discussion resumed on discharge for 1998 budget

Brussels, 12/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - The parliamentary committee on budgetary control is to discuss, during its meeting on Monday evening in Strasbourg, the matter of the European Commission's discharge for execution of the 1998 budget, postponed following adoption of the report by elected CSU member, Ms Stauner. The parliamentary committee will examine the additional documents that it had requested of the European Commission before granting it discharge. The President, Mr Baron, considers Ms Stauner's letter to the Commission calling for this information a "systematic work of demolition", said a spokesman of the Socialist Group, which promises quite a heated debate on Monday.
