EU intends to secure recognition of its "virtual" competence for patents at the WIPO conference

Brussels, 12/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - The diplomatic conference of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) opened on Thursday in Geneva and will continue until 2 June. Its primary goal is adoption of the treaty on patent law. The EU Member States will participate, whereas the EU as such (European Community) only has observer status, exercised by the Commission.
