Brussels, 02/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has approved the planned takeover by German company Siemens AG, active in the information and communications sector, of the mobile phone activities of another German company, Bosch GmbH, concentrated in Bosch's subsidiaries Bosch Telecom A/S (Pandrup, Denmark) and Bosch Telecom GmbH (Stuttgart, Germany). The two companies, which make an annual overall turnover of EUR 2.7 billion, develop, produce and market mobile phones and mobile communications accessories of the "Bosch" trademark. In concrete terms, Siemens will acquire the research and development activities of the two subsidiaries and take over all Bosch's contractual obligations in the mobile telephony field. Production will be taken over by a contractor working on behalf of Siemens. The merger will not create a dominant position for Siemens on the mobile telephony market, since numerous strong suppliers, some of them with considerable market shares, operate at both national and European level, considers the Commission. The Commission did not, therefore, raise any objections to the planned takeover.
