Conference with Antonio Guterres

Brussels, 02/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - On the 5 May, the Centre of European Policy Studies (CEPS) chaired by Peter Ludlow organised at the Palais d'Egmont in Brussels a conference on the consequences of last March's special summit in Lisbon: titled "Building on Lisbon." The conference will be opened by the President of the European Council, the Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres. Then:

- a session will be dedicated to employment, economic reform and social cohesion, the first large theme of the summit, with the participation of the European Commissioner Erkki Liikanen, the President of the European Investment Bank Philippe Maystadt, the Secretary General of UNICE Dirk Hudig, of Peter Colderick from the ETUC, of Prof. Richard Layard from the London School of Economics (and advisor to Tony Blair) and by Jacques Pelkmans, from the CEPS.

- a session will deal with the other main theme of the summit, crisis management, post-war reconstruction and EU enlargement in South-eastern Europe, with the participation of the Bulgarian and Croatian Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Nadezhda Mikhailova and Tonino Pilcula, the Romanian Ambassador at large Sergiu Celac, Edward Llewellyn, responsible for South-eastern Europe in the cabinet of Commissioner Patten, Marc Otte, the EU Council secretariat, and Michael Emerson, from the CEPS.
