SMEs want a European Charter

Brussels, 10/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - While basing itself on the contribution to the Lisbon Summit of 23 and 24 March of Unice (European employers) of which it is a delegation (see EUROPE of 9 March, pp.15/16), UEAPME/EUROPMI (representing craft, trades and small and medium sized enterprises in Europe), wants: i) more account to be taken of the needs of very small companies (less than 10 employees) through a European Charter for Micro-enterprises; ii) assistance to be given to the creation of new enterprises; iii) reinforced actions for existing small businesses; iv) a strengthened role for the social partners in training policy. "Lisbon is just a start. The Charter for Micro-enterprises, and our other demands, need to be further elaborated during the French Presidency" (second half of the year).
