Brussels, 31/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Ecofin Council decided to set in place the high level group responsible for finding solutions in the field of savings taxation, according to the mandate of the Helsinki Summit. This group will meet for the first time in February and will be chaired by Mr Manuel Baganha, Portuguese Secretary of State for Taxation Affairs. "The Presidency considers it should be vested with strong political colouring. The Member States will appoint their representatives in coming days", commented the Portuguese Finance Minister Mr Pina Moura. France has already announced that it will be represented by Mrs Florence Parly, Secretary of State for the Budget, and Luxembourg by its Budgets Minister Mr Luc Frieden.
