The Hague, 27/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - A delegation of the EPP Group headed by Hubert Pirker meet Europol Director Jurgen Storbeck in The Hague on Tuesday and, on this occasion, the elected member of ÖVP, expert in internal security issues, welcomed the extension of Europol powers to the fight against terrorism, the exploitation of children for pornographic purposes and money laundering. In particular with regards money laundering, Europol hopes there will be closer cooperation with OLAF and the European Central Bank, said Mr Pirker. Regarding the fight against drugs, the Europol experts emphasised the danger of synthetic drugs (Europe has become the main market for exports of this kind of drug).
