Commissioner McGrath in Washington to discuss data transfer cooperation after US Supreme Court judgment

20/07/2026 (Agence Europe)On 20 and 21 July, European Commissioner for Justice and Consumer Protection Michael McGrath will hold talks in Washington with representatives of the US administration and Congress, including the Chair of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Andrew Ferguson, along with civil society representatives. Discussions will focus in particular on data flow cooperation and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, as well as on child protection and judicial cooperation. This visit follows the US Supreme Court’s judgment delivered at the end of June, which found certain provisions guaranteeing the independence of US executive authorities, including the FTC, to be unconstitutional, whilst the European Commission is still assessing the possible consequences of this decision for the EU-US agreement on data transfers. (see EUROPE 13900/19)(APH)
