20/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – Italy recycled 10.97 million tonnes of packaging waste in 2025, representing 77.3% of packaging placed on the market, compared with 76.7% in 2024, according to the annual report of the national packaging consortium, CONAI, published on Monday 20 July. Including energy recovery, the share of packaging diverted from landfills exceeds 86.6%. These results place Italy among the most advanced European countries in the circular economy, with performance above the European targets for 2030. The progress notably concerns paper and cardboard (92.6% recycled), glass (more than 82%), wood (69.7%) and plastic, which for the first time reached a rate of 50.5%. In 2025, reusable packaging systems also saw growth, with 1.355 million tonnes reported – an increase of more than 100,000 tonnes in a single year (see EUROPE 13832/16). (LC)
