20/07/26 (Agence Europe) – The European Union has extended for one year, until 31 July 2027, the restrictive measures in view of the situation in Lebanon, according to the legal act linked to this decision, published on Monday 20 July in the Official Journal of the European Union. This sanctions regime, imposed in July 2021 (see EUROPE 12773/15), contains no entries. It provides for the possibility of imposing restrictive measures on persons and entities responsible for undermining democracy or the rule of law in Lebanon. This regime makes it possible to sanction those who obstruct or undermine the democratic political process, hamper or undermine the implementation of plans to improve accountability and good governance in the public sector or the implementation of essential economic reforms, or who have committed serious financial misconduct concerning public funds and the unauthorised export of capital.
