24/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Union and China held the 11th high-level EU-China Environment Policy Dialogue in Brussels on Tuesday 23 June, co-chaired by Jessika Roswall, the European Commissioner for Environment, and Huang Runqiu, the Chinese Minister for Ecology and Environment, with a view to strengthening their environmental cooperation. The discussions focused in particular on implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and on stepping up international efforts to protect nature. The two sides also discussed biodiversity financing, notably through innovative mechanisms such as nature credits and benefit-sharing linked to genetic data. Combating plastic pollution featured prominently, with renewed support for a legally binding global treaty. The talks also underlined the need to make progress on reducing chemical pollution, in particular PFAS substances, regarded as a global challenge. (LC)
