22/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – In a statement published on Friday 19 June by a spokesperson for the European External Action Service, the European Union calls on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to immediately halt their assault on El Obeid. The UN Security Council voiced alarm on Saturday over an “imminent risk of atrocities” in the capital of North Kordofan state, which has 420,000 inhabitants. “The killing of civilians, the violence against ethnic groups, and targeting of civilian infrastructure must stop. Civilians must be allowed to leave freely and safely and humanitarian actors to have rapid, safe and unhindered access”, the European spokesperson said. In mid-June, a complaint denouncing military support by the United Arab Emirates for the RSF paramilitaries was lodged with the International Criminal Court. (BD)
