10/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The regulation on the coordination of rail capacities was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on Wednesday 10 June. The European Parliament had given its final green light to the adoption of the text last May (see EUROPE 13870/17). Its aim is to harmonise European rail transport in order to avoid delays and encourage a modal shift to rail. In particular, it defines the procedures for planning and allocating rail infrastructure capacity within the Union. Most of the new provisions will enter into force on Thursday 11 June, while the first optimised timetable is expected to enter into force in December 2030, the European Commission said.
