10/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The next three Presidencies of the Council of the EU – the Ireland (see EUROPE 13885/34), Lithuania and Greece trio – announced in their work programme published on Tuesday 9 June that the Multiannual Financial Framework would be at the heart of their work. “In order to ensure that the Union has the resources needed to meet long-term strategic ambitions and priorities and to respond effectively to new challenges, this trio will give priority to work on a Multiannual Financial Framework and its sectoral proposals that meet the Union’s needs for the period 2028-2034”. The trio highlights three strands of work: a free and democratic Europe, a strong and secure Europe, with, among other things, ambitious enlargement, coherent and influential external action, strategic action on security and defence, and a comprehensive approach to migration, and lastly a prosperous and competitive Europe.
