The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, announced, on Wednesday 3 June, the appointment of 33 EU Ambassadors and seven Deputy Heads of Delegation of the European Union. The names of two new Deputy Managing Directors at EEAS headquarters were also revealed: Dominic Porter for Asia and the Pacific and Francesca Di Mauro for Africa.
Asia/Pacific. The former Dutch Foreign Minister, Caspar Veldkamp has been appointed EU Ambassador to China.
Hervé Delphin has been appointed as Ambassador to Indonesia. He is being replaced at the head of the Delegation in India by Jean-Éric Paquet, himself replaced in Japan by Pier Giorgio Federico Aliberti.
The EU Delegation in Nepal will be headed by Charles Whiteley, the Delegation in Sri Lanka by Sylvia Hartleif, and Luc Devigne takes up the same post in Turkmenistan.
Lucie Samcová has been appointed EU Ambassador to New Zealand, replacing Lawrence Meredith, who takes over heading the Delegation in Australia.
Antonino Maggiore has been appointed EU Ambassador to Qatar and Andreas Fiedler takes up the post of EU Representative to the West Bank, Gaza Strip and UNRWA.
Nicola Bellomo has been appointed Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in Afghanistan.
Marina Rafti has been appointed EU Ambassador to ASEAN.
Europe. Malena Mård takes over heading the EU Delegation in Russia, and Jukka Salovaara the Delegation in the United Kingdom. Sofia Moreira de Sousa has been appointed EU Ambassador to Albania and Peter Van Kemseke to the same post in Norway. Alexandre Stutzmann has been appointed EU Ambassador to the Council of Europe.
Africa. Belén Calvo Uyarra has been appointed EU Ambassador to Botswana and to the Southern African Development Community. She is being replaced in Rwanda by Jérémie Blin. Alessandro Villa has been appointed EU Ambassador to Burundi and Veronika Bosković Pohar to the same post in Cameroon.
The Delegation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo will be headed by Douglas Carpenter, the Delegation in Kenya by Andreas Peschke and the Delegation in Mozambique by Francisco Fontan Pardo. Aude Maio-Coliche has been appointed EU Ambassador to Senegal, replacing Jean-Marc Pisani, who takes over heading the Delegation in Tanzania. Alexis Konstantopoulos has been appointed EU Ambassador to Libya and Kristian Schmidt to South Africa.
Americas. The current EEAS Secretary-General, Belén Martínez Carbonell, takes over heading the Delegation in Mexico, replacing Francisco André, who has been appointed EU Ambassador to Brazil. The Delegation in Nicaragua will be headed by Charles-Michel Geurts, and the Delegation in Panama by Andrea Matteo Fontana.
Deputies. Alexis Hupin has been appointed Deputy Head of Office in Kosovo and Julian Vassallo Deputy Head of Delegation in Serbia. Tessa Harris Hess takes up the same post in Barbados, Carole Demol in Côte d’Ivoire and Thomas Huyghebaert in Senegal.
