13/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – 132,600 people were refused entry to the European Union in 2025, an increase of 7.1% compared to 2024, according to data published by Eurostat on Tuesday 12 May. At the same time, the number of orders to leave the territory rose by 5.8%, with 491,950 such orders recorded. Removal measures saw a notable increase, as the number of actual returns to third countries jumped by 21%, totalling 135,460 people. Germany is the country that has ordered the most repatriations (29,295), ahead of France and Sweden. Among those returned, the most represented were Turks, Georgians and Syrians. Furthermore, the number of illegal residents in Europe has fallen significantly: Eurostat recorded that 719,395 people were found to be illegally present in the EU, 21.7% fewer than in 2025.
